ED 565 Final Project
Literacy is at the center of our lives. It is involved in every aspect as it involves speech, writing, reading, and communicating. Thus, literacy is a complex concept that has multiple dimensions, which include: historical, psychological/neuroscientific, sociocultural, and political. Each perspective provides insight into literacy. The history of literacy provides us with an understanding of how it developed and how it adapted as societies changed. By looking at the development and progression of literacy this also helps us to look at how the brain processes literacy and by studying the brain overtime. When studying the brain, we can learn that there are other factors besides a psychological factor such as where one comes from and socioeconomic status to name a few. These cultural factors influences beliefs of policies of lawmakers who enforce policies in education about literacy.
This project explores each of these perspectives in-depth to provide you with a clearer understanding of the complexity of literacy. Each dimension is intertwined like a web overlapping and building upon the other. Once each piece of silk is laid, or each dimension is put into place, the complete picture is Literacy.
